Djarum Foundation together with Tokio Marine Indonesia and Permatasari Foundation held cleft lip and palate surgery. A total of 33 patients with cleft lips underwent surgery at the Aisyiyah Kudus Hospital.
“The operation went smoothly. Handled by the medical team, namely five plastic surgeons led by Dr. Parintosa, three anesthesiologists, nurses, and other medical personnel," explained the Director of Aisyiyah Hospital, Doctor Hilal Ariadi, Saturday (11/9/2019). He explained that initially there were 57 children who registered, then 37 children attended the screening examination. However, the final result that can be operated on is 33 children.
“This social service for cleft lip and palate surgery is the sixth time. And, this shows the commitment of the Djarum Foundation along with Tokio Marine Indonesia and the Permatasari Foundation to help with the medical team. And, patients have undergone surgery not only from Kudus but also outside the city such as Demak, Semarang, Wonosobo, and some from Cilacap, "he said.
Meanwhile, the President Director of Tokio Marine Indonesia, Sancoyo Setiabudi, expressed his gratitude for joining the Djarum Foundation and Permatasari Foundation to be able to help people who are in dire need of health assistance. "Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been carried out several times, only for cleft lip surgery this time," he said.
Dr. Parintosa, Head of the Plastic Surgeon Team said, Cleft lip and palate is a special defect condition that causes imperfections in the structure of the lips or the roof of the mouth. "There are several factors that cause cleft lip, including malnutrition during the first trimester of pregnancy," he explained.
He said, from time to time the technology in cleft lip surgery continues to develop, there is something basic that we must agree on, especially with regard to patient safety, "This is not an emergency operation, but a planned operation, so that patients are optimized," he explained. He added, "Like a child, a device is attached to the nose, such as a jack so that the nose is high, later it can help facilitate lip surgery. There are many requirements before surgery, including a minimum of 10 weeks-old babies, HB of more than 10 grams per decilitre, leukocytes without infection, and others. "That's what makes the basis for this child sufficient for surgery," he explained.
Representative of the Djarum Foundation, Purwono Nugroho, said that this free surgery aims to restore the cheerful smile of cleft lip sufferers so that in the future they can be more confident in living their future. With this free operation, it is hoped that patients with a cleft lip will be in better condition. Patients can also be more confident after surgery. This free cleft lip surgery program is held twice a year and the number of participants is increasing.
"By joining various parties, there will be synergy, so that this activity can continue to develop better, and patients can be treated quickly," explained Purwono Nugroho. Still, in the same place, the Head of the Health Office, Joko Dwi Putranto, appreciated this activity, because hospitals have a social responsibility to the community. Cleft lip surgery is a form of contribution to society.
Present at the event were the Head of BPH Aisiyah Hospital, Farida Hidayah, regional leadership of Muhammadiyah Kudus, Head of Health Office Joko Dwi Putranto, and from Agrapana, Endang Sri Sarastri.
